Fall Book Picks: What You Should Be Reading Now

Our recommendations for summer book picks were so popular that we wanted to provide our top picks for the Fall. Here are some of our recent faves and what we enjoyed most about the stories:

The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles provides a unique perspective on the role of a library throughout history, specifically during World War II.

The Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead takes an interesting look at the life of female aviator Marian Graves, interspersed with a story of a modern actress who plays Marian in a film based on her life.

The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner uncovers a secret network of women from eighteenth-century women and does a great job alternating between that time period and present-day London.

Between Two Kingdoms: A Memoir of a Life Interrupted by Suleika Jaouad is an inspirational personal account of a New York Times columnist’s journey from cancer diagnosis to re-entry into “normal” life and the beauty and challenges she faces en route.

The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth has a plot twist that you won’t want to miss!

The Cape Doctor by EJ Levy is inspired by the life of Dr. James Miranda Barry and is a fascinating take on a woman who disguises herself as a man to practice medicine.

The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz is a great mystery thriller with a literary twist.

Another literary-focused fiction book, The Madwoman Upstairs by Catherine Lowell tells the fictional story of the last living descendant of the Bronte sisters.

The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave is a fast-paced mystery that keeps you guessing the entire book.

What’s next on our reading list?

We’re also looking forward to reading Zakiya Dalila Harris’ The Other Black Girl, Colson Whitehead’s Harlem Shuffle and Liane Moriarty’s Apples Never Fall. We’ll let you know what we think once we’ve finished. In the meantime, we’re always on the hunt for other great literary suggestions, so feel free to let us know what we should be adding to our “To read” list.

Happy reading!
